TRANSITIONAL MEMBERSHIP

SHRA's mission is to "champion the highest professional standards of HR ethics and performance by providing ongoing professional development, resources, networking and support for its members and the community."

Through 2010, SHRA would like to “Lend a Hand” and continue the transitional membership which was instituted at the beginning of 2009.  We will continue to offer a free transitioning membership for up to one year to help unemployed members stay current on HR issues and provide the resources they need in their job searches.

Transitioning membership is open to active SHRA members who are unemployed on the date their membership expires and for those who become unemployed up to 90 days after their membership lapses. It does not extend to students and there is no refund if a member loses his or her job after renewing SHRA membership.

Unemployed members can contact SHRA by email (membership@myshra.org) to request an application.  The application must be approved before the active SHRA member has made a renewal payment. Members will receive notification when their transitioning membership has been approved and reactivated.

A transitioning membership includes the cost of a basic membership. Transitioning professionals will be responsible for any costs associated with monthly meetings, conference or other events.

MEMBERS IN TRANSITION PROGRAM OUTLINE:

This new opportunity has been created to support SHRA members who are seeking new employment opportunities
in HR, in need of career development, or seeking a support group during job and career transition times.

This group meets two times a month: on the first Tuesday of each month and after each SHRA membership meeting.

These sessions are intended to be a means to:

  • Share local HR employment opportunities
  • Discuss resume preparation, cover letters, and career portfolios
  • Review interview and follow-up techniques for HR professionals
  • Facilitate career guidance
  • Facilitate networking
  • Communicate HR developmental opportunities
  • And, in general, support HR professionals in navigating their careers

Guest speakers and counselors will be available to provide different perspectives of the HR profession and
to discuss approaches to maximizing career goals and ambitions.

The MIT program will also maintain a members-only BLOG and resource page with job leads, news, and information.

A confidential voluntary resume bank of those seeking new employment opportunities will be maintained. The MIT program will work with local employers and HR candidates to submit qualified candidates for positions not posted or openly advertised: a simple and great way to tap into the hidden job market.
