Topic: Linguistic Cues to Deception - Assessing Credibility and Emotions

HR professionals need to assess others' credibility and emotions when:

(1) interviewing job applicants
(2) negotiating with vendors and job applicants
(3) investigating misconduct

In this session, you will learn what scientists have found are the best way to assess other's credibility and emotions.  By examining videos and transcripts, you will learn:

-Which verbal content, verbal style, facial, and body cues are associated with deception, and which are not
-Which facial and body cues are associated with certain emotions
-When it's better to negotiate face to face vs. by email or text
-Questioning strategies designed to encourage honesty and to make it harder for people to be deceptive
