Kim Whiteman

Kim Whiteman retired from A. Schulman in July, 2016 as EVP & CHRO after 7 years. Schulman was a $2.5B publicly traded company with approximately 6,000 associates in 54 manufacturing locations globally. Prior to Schulman I worked nearly 30 years at Goodyear in a variety of HR roles including leader of HR for: the global supply chain organization, global tire technology organization, North American consumer tire division and the Latin America Region. I have participated in 8 facility start-ups in six countries, 4 facility closures in three countries and a dozen acquisitions.  I have hired directors for boards, facilitated a CEO internal succession plan and hired multiple company officers. My experience includes negotiations with unions and leading union free processes in multiple countries. Both A. Schulman and Goodyear are manufacturing companies so my experience is centered on this perspective.

My experience taught me that people drive culture, culture drives behavior and behavior drives performance. Further, strategic HR work is divided between; 1. The establishment and maintenance of corporate culture and, 2. Leveraging leadership development and succession plans that supports the desired culture.

I believe culture can be measured every day and that progressive leaders can improve both individual and organizational performance by managing the intersections between people, culture and behavior. I also believe that organizations expect leaders to lead in ways that consistently and constantly leverage corporate culture.

I graduated from The Ohio State University with a BS in Industrial & Systems Engineering in 1979. I have attended executive education programs at Wharton and Thunderbird. We have retired to Venice, Florida where we are learning to enjoy the water via sailing, boating, paddle boarding and kayaking and I spend time supporting several local non-profit organizations and traveling. I also have an HR consulting business called “Winds Of Change, LLC.”
