SHRA recognized its Volunteer and Professional of the Year for 2019 at the January member meeting.

Stephanie Strausbaugh is currently the recruiter and employee engagement ninja at Aviva - A Campus for Senior Life and has done an amazing job revitalizing the full cycle recruiting and onboarding process, coordinating employee recognition programs and leading the culture team with engagement initiatives and events throughout the year.

This year she partnered with senior leadership and the hiring managers to develop a formal position control, recruiting and onboarding process.

In an effort to protect her “investment” she also focused strongly on retention through the creation and leadership of a campus “social committee” and spearheaded a monthly event focused on improving culture / work environment. The engagement and employee morale at Aviva has increased significantly due to Stephanie’s contributions and the leadership team has taken notice.

Jay Solomon, President and CEO shared this about Stephanie, "Her smile has lit up the halls of the Aviva campus and it's the most wonderful, contagious disease any healthcare facility can have!"

Teresa Martin, VP of Healthcare Services said, "Stephanie is like the energizer bunny that just keeps going! Her enthusiasm is contagious and most present in the special employee events and celebrations she plans. She has helped to build a culture of caring in the workplace and really takes time during the hiring process to get to know employees. She stays connected throughout their onboarding process and follows their progress as they continue their employment. I’m so happy for her that her professionalism and hard work is being recognized tonight by her peers."

In addition to her role at Aviva, Stephanie is an active member and volunteer with the Sarasota-Manatee New Talent Committee, which focuses on cultivating engagement with interns and young professionals in our area so that they choose to remain here in lieu of accepting positions out of the area....and keeping our top talent local!

Stephanie also found time this year to micro-volunteer for SHRA at member meetings.

Last but not least, Stephanie achieved a personal and professional goal of earning her SHRM-CP this summer after participating in the SHRA certification prep course and supplementing her learning with self study.

Melanie Singletary earned SHRA's Volunteer of the Year for 2019 thanks to her efforts on the College Relations Committee. Melanie is the HR Manager for Avidity Home Health, has been a SHRA member since 2016 and earned her SHRM-CP in December 2018 after taking the SHRA certification course and winning the LeRoss Parker scholarship.

Melanie was tasked with overseeing the HR FL Conference Student Scholarship which she did beautifully. Through her contact with New College of Florida, Melanie secured volunteers for a series of work readiness workshops that took place between February and April of 2019. She attended the Alltrust Leadership Summit in May 2019, and she was selected as a participant in the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Sarasota Class of 2020.

Kevin Gillen, SHRA's 2019 College Relations Chair, wrote, "Melanie has an unrelenting work ethic, is always positive in the most of challenging times and has clearly demonstrated the ability to manage and master multiple projects and responsibilities for different organizations.  She is a self-starter and sets herself apart with countless initiative.  Melanie consistently demonstrates outstanding leadership as an astute listener, clear and concise communicator with a fantastic strategic thought process." Melanie will succeed Kevin as College Relations Chair in 2020.
