HR FL Conference & Expo

2018 Student Scholarship Invitation

We have wonderful news to share with you for your students pursuing their degree in business and human resources.

Each year, HR FL; the state’s organization under SHRM, (Society of Human Resource Management) hosts an annual conference packed with subject matter experts, world renowned authors, speakers and numerous working sessions / workshops that help the business leaders and human resource managers to address their dynamic world of compliance, regulation, culture, recruitment, development, compensation, training & development, technology, change management; etc.

Our board has approved two student scholarships for this year’s conference being held from August 27th to August 28th in Orlando.  The scholarship covers the conference registration and conference room hotel for two nights.  The selected students will have a SHRA College Relations Committee Member assigned to them as their conference host.

Our ask of you is to disseminate this information to all applicable faculty, department chairs, student advisors and student business clubs inviting them to apply.  Attached please find the one-page application and a one-page letter of recommendation that the student must submit to apply.  Should you or the student have any questions, they may contact me directly.

Lastly, we would like to extend an open invitation to join us at any of our monthly Sarasota / Manatee SHRA meetings.  The key note speakers are outstanding and national subject matter experts.  The room is packed with human resource executives covering many different industries.  Please visit our web site –

Thank you for your time, consideration and support.

The College Relations Committee reaches out to university and college students in the Sarasota-Manatee area to introduce the field of Human Resources.  In addition to providing an introduction to the field of Human Resources, students are exposed to training, offered guidance, and provided with interview skills and resume writing, as needed.  SHRA student membership offers the opportunity to network with a variety of professionals within the human resource field.  These interchanges may assist with job placement, internships, a mentor, etc.

Student Membership

Individuals who are actively enrolled full time in an accredited HR degree program at the college or university level shall be designated as student members.  Student members may not vote and may not hold office in SHRA.

To qualify for the SHRA student membership, an individual must be enrolled in either an undergraduate or a graduate degree program at an accredited college or university, focusing on the study of human resources, with a minimum of six credits.  Membership is available for up to three years before converting to a professional membership.  Membership is evaluated annually.  Proof of student status is required.  Students must be living or attending school in Sarasota or Manatee County.

Student eligibility is dependent on being a SHRM student member (SHRM membership # and expiration date required when joining).
