“Serve the HR Professional ~ Advance the HR Profession”


Each year the SHRA Board develops a set of goals and objectives for the year.  This goal-setting process helps us plan strategically for a successful year, serve our members and our community by advancing the HR profession and meet the requirements of SHRM as an affiliate chapter.


·       Increase SHRA membership by 10% for total of 336 members for 2018

·       Grow SHRM membership 5%

  • 10 new SHRM members in 2018

·       Maintain Retention of members @ 82%

·       Maintain SHRM Foundation Chapter Championship status through our continued, growing support of the SHRM Foundation

  •      2017 contribution to SHRM Foundation $1,500
  •      2018 Goal = $2,000

Member Engagement

 ·     Increase member engagement by offering and promoting a broad range of volunteer opportunities and committee participation

·       Provide "New Member" identification badge ribbon to increase new member recognition at General Membership Meetings and encourage engagement

·       Create a committee of past presidents to coordinate our 55th anniversary party

·       Create a volunteer database and spreadsheet of volunteer opportunities

·       Call to action our Student members to be involved

·       Have round table discussions prior to business meeting to generate relationship building

·       Organize social events centered on Community Involvement

Workforce Readiness

·       Partner with CareerSource for State of Talent Event

·       Partner with CareerSource for State of Jobs

·       Connect our members in transition with local employers by expanding the use of our Jobs Board

·       Increase opportunities for Workforce Readiness/development with SHRA volunteers conducting mock interviews or resume reviews (at local schools), HR panel or presentations to career seekers at CareerSource, or offering internship opportunities at their offices for Youth

College Relations

·       Recruit Committee of 4-6 members and 2-3 Students

·       Increase student membership to 8-12

·       Update & maintain current College/School and Workforce Readiness Contacts

·       Assign committee members respective school contacts to meet and develop relationships

·       Inventory college/school-based workforce readiness program and events for which we may offer support, guidance and volunteers

·       Target at least 4 programs or events during 2018

 ·      Personally meet with each school's department head and student career advisor(s) to advocate student membership and our support

 ·      For college/school in need of support; leverage CareerSource Suncoast and CareerEdge Funders collaborates

 ·      Develop two HR FL Conference student member scholarships for board approval followed by an invitation to all local colleges and schools


·       Offer certification prep course to increase members' and potential members' likelihood of successfully passing their SHRM certification exam

·       Increase the number of certified professionals in SHRA and our community


·       Our diversity initiative TBD

Community Involvement

·       Build partnerships in the community to increase engagement and awareness of SHRA

·       Continue to offer non-profit sponsorship opportunities for local resources that would benefit our members and their organizations
